about

With the success of the network’s first stage of development, the UK government approved plans for Phase 2 to be constructed between 1976 and 1984, with the first trains arriving at Hordron Edge Incline by February of that year.

New stations at the Bridestones, Hobs Halt, Gardoms Yard (incorporating Gardoms Edge Standing Stone) and a comprehensive junction at Barbrook South formed the main additions of Phase 2, although additional facilities were also added at Arbor Low South, to accommodate the large number of passengers visiting Gib Hill, especially at equinox events. The network was expanded further using parts of the trackbed from the now derelict Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Junction line which closed in 1968, as well as parts of the Cromford & High Peak Railway, also derelict for the most part and closed in 1967.

Take up on new services was good, and plans for a Phase 3 Development Scheme were soon drawn up, incorporating new Third Rail Electric technology, to provide a quieter and cleaner transit experience for passengers.

"..towering modular synthesisers to depict bustling platforms of busy stations at Bronze Age and Neolithic sites throughout the Peak District" - Bob Fisher, Fortean Times.
